Why I Started a Video Company: A Journey from Failure to Passion

Hello, my name is Courtney Davis, and I am the proud owner of Life View Video Production, LLC. As I reflect on my entrepreneurial journey, I find it imperative to share the lessons learned from my first venture, which ultimately paved the way for my success in video production.

Back in 2010, I launched a home care company for seniors. Unfortunately, within a year, the business failed miserably. While this might sound discouraging, I consider it a vital learning experience. The failure taught me an invaluable lesson: you should never pursue a business solely for financial gain. Instead, it’s crucial to engage in work that ignites genuine passion and purpose within you.

Why my first company struggled

Looking back, I can pinpoint several reasons why my initial company struggled:

1. Industry Research: A lack of thorough market understanding meant I was unprepared for the challenges ahead.

2. Minimum Capital: Insufficient funding limited my ability to invest in essential resources and marketing.

3. Being Competitive: Without a clear differentiation strategy, standing out in a crowded marketplace was nearly impossible.

4. Poor Visibility: Perhaps the most significant factor was a lack of visual marketing. The absence of effective visibility hindered my ability to connect with potential clients and showcase what we offered.

Reflecting on these factors, I realized that poor visibility was at the core of my business’s struggles. If we had executed a robust marketing strategy, it could have opened up numerous opportunities. Proper visibility would have helped us establish a clear identity as a company, communicate our unique offerings, and share our process with potential customers.

The other three challenges stemmed from inadequate planning, which further highlighted the importance of visibility in any business endeavor.

Fast forward to 2016, as I began to conceptualize Life View Video Production. I asked myself a pivotal question: What if I could create a service that empowers startup companies to gain a competitive edge and communicate effectively with their audiences? I recognized that social media had revolutionized the way businesses connect with potential customers, and video marketing emerged as the most powerful tool in that landscape.

My vision was to level the playing field for everyone—small startups and established corporations alike.
